Notícies: INRA, UPSC and CRAG establish a virtual open laboratory in plant, agricultural, and forest tree biology
INRA (Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique, France), UPSC (Umeå Plant Science Center, Sweden) and CRAG (Center for Research in Agricultural Genomics, Barcelona, Spain) have signed an Agreement of Collaboration to establish a virtual open laboratory in plant, agricultural, and forest tree research - INUPRAG, a contraction of INRA, UPSC and CRAG. These three research institutions have strong complementarities in the areas of integrative biology and plant genomics. The initiative follows on the footsteps of a previous similar collaborative effort between INRA and UPSC. The framework agreement for the creation of this "laboratory without walls", that will include CRAG, UPSC and two of INRA´s scientific departments ("Plant biology and breeding", and "Ecology of forests, meadows and water bodies"), was signed on October 7, 2015, at the INRA site Champenoux during the course of the first trilateral meeting on Plant Integrative Biology. The meeting brought together plant scientists from the three institutions and was supported LabEx TREE, Saclay Plant Sciences and the University of Lorraine. The second trilateral meeting will take place in Barcelona in the Autumn of 2017.
The main goals for this cooperation are the development of joint research projects, the transfer of knowledge and tools from model species such as Arabidopsis thaliana or Poplar to crops, and to promote the training of young scientists through regular exchanges between laboratories of the associated countries.
• UPSC is a leader in research on genomics and physiology of forest trees.
