MARÍA COCA LECTURE | From the lab to the consumer: fortifying vitamins and phytonutrients in tomato

This is an annual seminar in memory of CSIC researcher at CRAG María Coca, who passed away on March 22nd of 2021.
María Coca was a renowned expert in plant defense mechanisms against pathogenic fungi, making significant contributions to this field. In recent years, she also dedicated herself successfully to plant biotechnology. Known for her approachable nature and strong teamwork skills, she collaborated extensively with colleagues at CRAG and at other different centers.
This special seminar will feature Cathie Martin from John Innes Center (JIC). Martin focuses on using plant science to enhance human diet and health. Her research specializes in biofortification and metabolic engineering to improve the nutritional value of foods. Much of her work has been conducted in tomatoes, enriching them with beneficial compounds like resveratrol and anthocyanins.
