- CROMA 2.0 initiative is a social-educational programme of the Fundació Autònoma Solidària that aims to promote interaction and collaboration between the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) and primary school centres that receive students at risk of social exclusion.
This year, a total of 51 students from Montessori, Pau Casals, El Viver, Del Bosc and Ramón Llull schools visited CRAG. They were able to talk about science, learn about the research carried out at CRAG and indulge in their early passion for science. During this exciting morning, the students explained their projects using the scientific posters they had created after adapting the "Mutant Plants" workshop in their home centres. They were also able to discuss with CRAG scientists and each other the scientific concepts they had learnt in relation to their projects. The ideas presented covered a wide range of topics, such as giant and fluorescent sunflowers, spike-less cactuses that could be hugged, or blue roses for Sant Jordi.
After their presentations, the children took part in guided tours of CRAG's facilities with scientists, where they were able to learn first-hand about the research being carried out at our centre. During the visit they discovered the in vitro facilities, the greenhouse compartments and the wet labs of the volunteer researchers. All in all, on a day full of science, creativity and collaboration, the students were able to expand their knowledge, develop their curiosity about science and prove to themselves that anyone with a passion can become a scientist.
