Bellaterra, November 9th, 2016. Next weekend begins the 21st edition of Science Week, a long week in which numerous activities of science divulgation will take place in Spain. This year the Centre for Research in Agicultural Genomics (CRAG) participates actively in the Science Week offering various activities; the most outstanding is the presentation of the science divulgation book “Sketching Científic CRAG”, which will take place the next Thursday 10th of November in the in auditorium of Biblioteca Sagrada Família - Josep M. Ainaud de Lasarte (Barcelona).
The book presented within the framework of the Science Week is the result of an outreach project carried out at CRAG during this year. This project aims to explain CRAG’s plant and farm animal scientific research through the art of sketching. The drawings and annotations of the five professional sketchers and the nearly one hundred sketching amateurs who visited CRAG on an open house, set up this book, an exhibition, and an audiovisual, which also can be seen during the Science Week in the Biblioteca Sagrada Família - Josep M. Ainaud de Lasarte. Once the Science Week will be over, the exhibition will be transferred to the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), where it can be visited from 15th of December to 17th of February.
In addition to the project “Sketching ciéntífic CRAG”, the CRAG also offers other activities in the Biblioteca Sagrada Familia-Josep M. Ainaud de Lasarte premises during the Science Week. For example, On Thursday 10th in the morning, 4th grade students from a nearby school will do a workshop where they will discover how the plants change to adapt to their environment. During the weekend there will be talks for all audiences where CRAG researchers will explain curiositiesabout plants.
Another of the outstanding activities of the Science Week, which in Catalonia coordinates the Fundació Catalana per a la Recerca i la Innovació, is the “Science Day in Schools”, in which researches from Catalan research centres and universities move to secondary schools to explain the science in fist-person. On 16th of November five CRAG researches are going to schools in towns like Sant Just Desvern or Rubí to explain to the students what kind of research they do and what moves them to do it.
It is worth mentioning the conference entitled "The genetics that you eat; from the laboratory to the table ", which the IRTA researcher at CRAG ,Maria José Aranzana, will give at the headquarters of Departament d'Ensenyament de la Generalitat de Catalunya and which will be broadcast live in all schools in Catalonia.
About the project “Sketchind Científic CRAG”
