Dr. Ana I. Caño-Delgado has been elected member of the Multinational Arabidopsis Steering Committee (MASC) in representation of Spain
MASC has its origin in the 1990’s and was founded around the international Arabidopsis genome sequencing initiative. Today MASC is chaired by Barry Pogson and Nicholas Provart. Louis Brand is the current MASC coordinator. One of the main goals of MASC is to initiate and coordinate efforts and to strengthen collaboration and networking of Arabidopsis researchers worldwide.
Since a few years we observed the trend that basic Arabidopsis research is funded less all over the world with only few exceptions. Nevertheless, Arabidopsis is the reference plant and it is more important than ever to support and not to lose sight of Arabidopsis research completely. Many labs worldwide study Arabidopsis and other plant species in parallel. MASC would like to strengthen these translational approaches besides others as stated in the road map published in 2010 (Lavagi et al. Plant Cell, 2010). Progress and goals of MASC are published in the annual MASC report. In the previous two decades the annual MASC report was taken into account by researchers and funding agencies too.
