ICREA Workshop: From model system to crops, challenges for a new era in Plant Biology.
May 7th and 8th, 2014. Barcelona. REGISTRATION OPEN
We warmly invite you to be part of this exciting workshop, which will be held in the lively city of Barcelona, Spain, this coming spring (Wednesday 7th to Thursday 8th May 2014). In this 2-day workshop we will have worldwide recognized plant scientists who will explore and compare mechanistic insights of different aspects of plant biology in both model systems and various crops. Plants have developed efficient mechanisms to cope with the changing environmental conditions and link them to their developmental programs, which results in a high degree of developmental plasticity. Understanding regulation and plasticity of plant growth is of major agronomical importance. However, many of the most significant advances on these mechanisms have been made using the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana. Translating these advances to crops is a challenging endeavor that requires the development of new ideas and strategies to confront some of the coming global problems, such as the poorly understood (and very likely underestimated) impact of climate change on food production. We consider this a must-attend workshop for those interested in the challenges for today's basic science and tomorrow's agriculture. Participants are encouraged to submit abstracts for poster presentations. The number of participants will be limited to ~180 therefore early registration is recommended. The workshop will beheld within the CosmoCaixa building, a beautiful modernist building that is currently running as an interactive Science Museum.
