Plant and Animal Genomics
The aims of the Plant and Animal Genomics Program are to understand the genome organization, variability and evolution of different crops and domestic animals and to elucidate the genetics of important traits of species of agricultural interest.
To this end we are using a panoply of genetics, genomics and bioinformatic approaches which we apply to a wide array of plant and animal species, including cucurbits and different Rosaceae species, as well as pigs and goats. The Program also works in developing new bioinformatics methods and software tools to analyze the data generated by different NGS approaches.
The final objectives of the Program are to improve our knowledge on the structure and evolution of complex genomes as well as to develop methodological approaches that can be applied to commercial breeding programs through contracts with companies or agreements with public organizations.
