Plant Responses to Stress

The research groups integrated in this programme are interested in knowing how plants respond to stresses caused by both abiotic and biotic factors. This major scientific goal includes more focused objectives from the sensing of potentially harmful environmental conditions and the recognition of pathogenic organisms, followed by the transduction of signals, and finally to the characterization of the different plant responses to stress.

In the case of pathogenic microorganims, aspects of their biological cycles are also addressed. Together with these basic aspects, the programme pursues practical applications of the generated knowledge, trying to minimize the negative impact caused by the different stresses in crop productivity.

The final technological goal aims to apply new knowledge to manipulate the defensive responses in benefit of plants, obtaining crops better adapted to survive and be productive in changing environmental situations of diverse aggressiveness, and under the attack of different pathogenic agents.
